STEM Starter Academy
NEWS UPDATE: The STEM Starter Academy will be hosting STCC's first ever LifeHack! STCC LifeHack 2016 will take place at TechSpring in downtown Springfield from September 16 (from 5:30pm to 10:00pm) and September 17 (from 7:00am to 9:00pm). The event gives students a chance to dream big and solve life's everyday hassles through STEM. The STEM Starter Academy at Springfield Technical Community College provides incoming first year students a jumpstart to their first semester on campus. Participants receive a funded academic experience, launching them into their first year by taking classes, receiving tutoring and coaching, going on field trips, seeing guest speakers, and having hands-on experiences. During the academic year, students will also have access to coaching and tutoring support, and participate in STEM Starter Academy events and activities. Applicants to the STEM Starter Academy need to:
- Be a Massachusetts high school graduate from the graduating classes 2014, 2015, or 2016.
- Be a U.S. citizen and a Massachusetts resident.
- Submit a STCC admissions application for the Fall 2016 semester and a STEM Starter Academy application.
- Have a GPA of 2.0 or above.
- Have parent/guardian permission, if under 18 years of age.
Students may not always think a STEM career is for them, but we
want to show them there are a lot of places that degree can take
