My education was affordable and prepared me to immediately enter the workforce.

“I served nine years in the United States Navy and was deployed to Iraq in 2009 as a Fleet Marine Force Corpsman providing medical care. The physician’s assistant who I was working with had previously worked as a respiratory therapist. She explained to me the varied career opportunities available in the respiratory care field: working with children, adults, and the innovations in equipment and service delivery.

As a mom of three children, I decided after completing my contract with the Navy that I would pursue a degree in respiratory care. My research led me to STCC’s Respiratory Care program.  My education was affordable and prepared me to immediately enter the workforce.

The average age of students at STCC is 26, and I commend Professor Perrelli Brookes for her awareness of our different learning styles. Her classroom and lab presentations stressed experiential learning. Like the majority of our professors, she still works in the field, so I always knew I was learning what I’d be using on the job. After passing my licensure exam, I plan to work in an acute care hospital while continuing my education for a bachelor’s degree and eventually a master’s in teaching.” Katharine DeRock

“Katharine has all the qualifications of a true leader and a skilled healthcare provider. I have no doubt that whatever path she pursues, be it in life or career, she will not only succeed but excel.” Esther Perrelli Brookes, M.Ed., R.R.T., Professor and Department Chairperson, Respiratory Care
