STCC Diversity Council

“Diversity is a mosaic of people who bring a variety of backgrounds, styles, perspectives, values, and beliefs as assets to the groups and organizations with which they interact.”

On July 1, 2004, Springfield Technical Community College hired its current President, Ira H. Rubenzahl. President Rubenzahl identified as one of his goals for the College to see a faculty and staff that are reflective of the Greater Springfield community. The Diversity Council was created in October 2004 and its members represent a diverse racial, ethnic, gender composition and individuals from all components of the College, i.e., administration, faculty and staff.

President’s Charge to the Diversity Council

  • To be a leader in creating an inclusive organizational culture at STCC.
  • To monitor the college’s progress in diversifying our faculty and staff with the goal that our employees’ overall ethnicity and gender will be reflective of our students.
  • To educate others on campus about the values of mutual respect and inclusiveness.
  • To draft a diversity plan for the college with goals and timelines
  • To suggest actions and policies to the President that will advance the goals above.
