Art History
The History of Art, or Art History, as a discipline, refers to the study of the history of the visual arts (e.g. painting, sculpture, and architecture). The history of art includes an objective survey of art throughout human history, generally classifying art according to different time periods and/or stylistic movements. The field of art history is a western phenomenon, but within the last century a wider view has taken hold seeking to incorporate other societies and their artistic production into a more global perspective.
Study in the history of art can lead to a variety of careers including that of art historian, art reviewer, art critic, and curator. The study of art history is an invaluable resource for individuals interested in employment with museums and galleries, and for artists and designers.
Students interested in pursuing higher education in the field of art history should consider taking the following courses as electives while at STCC:

Liberal Arts Transfer Program Goals
The Liberal Arts Transfer program will produce graduates who:
- as graduates, transfer to senior institutions having completed the general education requirements of the senior institutions.
- as graduates, transfer to senior institutions as full Juniors.
- transfer courses as equivalents of prerequisites for junior and senior level courses in their majors at the senior institution.
- complete the bachelor's degree at the same rate as native students.
- demonstrate the capacity for critical thinking, quantitative, reasoning, communication, and information and technological literacy.

Notes:
- Liberal Arts Electives include: Math, Science, Social Sciences (except PSYC-109), Humanities, Fine Arts, and CMPA-196(Computing in the Arts and Sciences). A foreign language is recommended. For those students interested in secondary education, EDUC-320 Foundations of Education may be taken.
- Humanities Electives include: Art, Music, Drama or Creative Writing. Two are needed for students planning to transfer to Westfield State College.
- CMPA-196 Computing in the Arts and Sciences is strongly recommended.
Upon the successful completion of requirements for this program, the degree of Associate in Arts in Liberal Arts Transfer will be awarded.
