Black Professionals Group

Black Professionals Group

STCC Black Professionals Group (BPG) is an Employee Resource Group that was created in November 2012. Employee resource groups (also known as ERGs, affinity groups, or business network groups) are groups of employees who join together in their workplace based on shared characteristics or life experiences. ERG's are generally based on providing support, enhancing career development, and contributing to personal development in the work environment.

The BPG is comprised of faculty and staff members who identify as Black or African American. The missions of BPG is to create an avenue for sharing, socializing and networking, for seeking out talent and developing strengths. This group will foster a sense of community amongst the Black faculty and staff on campus, to positively benefit the college and the local community. This group will also serve as a way to create and seek out resources and form collaborations between like-minded individuals. BPG is an ad hoc group of the STCC Diversity Council.

BPG is a proud sponsor of the STCC Diversity Speaker and Performance Series.

Myra D. Smith Scholarship

Mayr Smith

In 2014, the Myra D. Smith Scholarship was created to honor former Vice President of HR and then Student & Multicultural Affairs, Myra Smith, for her exemplary work as an administrator. She also took great pride in providing the highest quality of customer service to our students, faculty and staff and always made sure that diversity was a major priority throughout STCC. The Myra D. Smith Scholarship Fund will provide assistance to a currently enrolled STCC student facing financial difficulties who identifies as Black or African-American. Each year, one student will be selected by the Black Professionals Group Scholarship Committee to be awarded a $500 scholarship.

If you are a student and you would like to apply for this scholarship, please view the STCC Foundation page.

If you are interested in donating to this scholarship, please contact Jessica Prokop, Director of Development and Foundation at 413-755-4529.

ScholarSip Scholarship

Each year the STCC Black Professionals Group hosts ScholarSip, Wine and Food Tasting Experience. This event is a scholarship fundraiser to raise money for the Myra D Smith Scholarship fund as well as celebrate diversity and inclusion at Springfield Technical Community College.
