How do I know if I'm eligible for any of the Awards?

The criteria for each award vary and are listed on each application. If you are an STCC student, if your Grade Point Average is at or above that listed on an application and you fit the rest of the criteria, you are eligible for it. For many awards, it helps if you are able to list clubs or committees to which you belong on campus and/or organizations to which you belong off campus.

How much are the Awards?

The amounts of each award can differ somewhat from year to year. Most of the awards are around $400 but vary from $100 to $1000.

Are Awards only for Graduating students?

No. About half of the awards offered through the Scholarships and Awards Committee are for graduating students and the remainder are for returning students. A few are for either graduating or returning students. Please check both the description and the criteria of each award for which you apply.

You are considered a graduating student if your graduation date is either January or May/June of the current year. Otherwise you are a returning student, even if you will be completing your program requirements during the summer.

Do I need to attach a copy of my transcript to the application form before I hand it in?

No. A member of the Scholarships and Awards Committee will look up your student records before interviews start.

How will I know whether I'll receive an award?

Please see the timetable. If you are not eligible for a particular award, you'll receive a letter from the committee. If you are eligible, you will be invited to be interviewed. Post interview and within a week or two of Honors Convocation, you'll receive a letter of regrets or an invitation to Convocation.

Can I receive the same award two times?

No.

Can I apply for both graduating and returning awards if I'm graduating in the current semester but returning the next semester for another degree?

No. If you are graduating, you are eligible for graduating awards in the semester you graduate. If you’re returning for another degree the next semester, as such you are an incoming student, not a returning student, and thus not yet eligible for any returning awards.
