Awards & Applications
ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to students who are graduating and continuing their education at another institution or to students who are currently enrolled at STCC and will be returning to STCC.
Criteria:
- Must have completed at least fifteen credits
- Minimum academic QPA of 3.0
- Contributions to STCC
- Community service/volunteer work
- Financial assistance need
ATHLETIC AWARD
Two scholarships will be awarded to two students, one male, one female, who will be returning to STCC for the fall semester.
Criteria:
- Contributions to the STCC athletic program
BOARD OF HIGHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP
Ten scholarships will be granted to returning students for the next academic year.
Criteria:
- Minimum Academic QPA of 3.0
- Contributions to STCC Community and/or the student's community
- Financial need
- Completion of at least nine credits
- Currently enrolled for a minimum of nine credits
CIVITAN SCHOLARSHIP
The New England District of Civitan International, a community service organization, is offering one $1,000 scholarship for a returning or graduating STCC student.
Criteria:
- Minimum Academic QPA of 3.0
- Voluntary Community Service
- Two letters of recommendation from supervisors of applicant’s volunteer service
- 500 word essay describing applicant’s volunteer service
- Preference given to an STCC Campus Civitan Club Member
CO-CURRICULAR AWARD
Presented annually to two students: One to a full-time, second-semester student, who has completed a minimum of 12 credits. The other will be presented to a graduating student.
Criteria:
- Minimum academic QPA of 3.0
- Involvement in extracurricular activities
JOSEPH J. COOLIGAN AWARD
One scholarship presented annually to a graduating senior who best emulates Mr. Cooligan's warmth, caring, and community involvement. Mr. Cooligan served as vice chairman of the Advisory Board of STCC from 1967-1981 and as its chairman in 1979. The award is presented to a student excelling in the areas of community involvement, college activities, and academic achievement.
Criteria:
- College and/or community involvement stressing the needs of others
- Minimum academic QPA of 3.0
- Employer and/or local community reference
- Employment while at STCC
- Faculty/staff letter of recommendation
- Student essay. Please write a one or two page essay about your most rewarding community/college service experience.
TRUDIE DAVID SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship was established by Trudie David, a long-time employee of STCC. Her sons George and Brian David give this scholarship. It is presented annually to one female student who will be returning for the fall semester.
Criteria:
- Must be a full-time returning female student who has completed one year of academic work.
- Minimum QPA of 3.5
- Not in receipt of financial aid
- Provide a written explanation of financial need
RAY M. DiPASQUALE SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is presented annually to a graduating student. It has been created in honor of the first Vice President of Enrollment Management/Student Affairs at STCC, who established the Enrollment Management Division.
Criteria:
- Be a graduating senior in a transfer program and plan to attend of four-year college
- Minimum academic QPA of 3.75
- Write an essay (2-4) pages on what STCC has done to prepare you for life and for a baccalaureate degree
JOHN H. DUNN SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is awarded to a graduating student in honor of former STCC Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs, John H. Dunn, who retired in May 2002 after 32 years of service to the College. It is presented annually to a graduating student who has been accepted at a four year college or university for the coming semester, and who has demonstrated academic excellence while enrolled at STCC. It is given by John H. Dunn and his wife, Gail P. Dunn.
Criteria:
- Be a graduating senior who's been accepted at a four-year college and is planning to transfer
- Must have completed a minimum of 45 credit hours while enrolled at STCC, limiting transfer credits from other schools to 15
- Minimum QPA of 3.5
EDMOND P. GARVEY AWARD
Scholarships presented annually to two STCC graduating seniors (one male; one female) who have, in the spirit of former President Garvey and by virtue of their significant accomplishments both at the college and in the Greater Springfield community, enriched the lives of their fellow students and all others associated with STCC.
Criteria:
- Minimum Academic QPA of 3.0
- Voluntary Service to STCC and/or Extracurricular Activities
- Contributions to Greater Springfield Community
- Employment while at STCC
- Faculty/staff letter of recommendation
ERNEST J. HENDERSON SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship will be awarded to a graduating or a returning student in memory of Ernest Henderson, president and owner of the Henderson Funeral Home, and a board member of Better Homes for Springfield.
Criteria:
- Identification as a member of a minority ethnic group
- Established residency in Springfield
- Minimum academic QPA of 3.0 or SAT score of over 1,000
- Community involvement demonstrating concern for others
Preference will be given to students who live in residential communities in which Better Homes for Springfield is involved.
LATINO BREAKFAST CLUB-EUGENIO MARIA DE HOSTOS SCHOLARSHIP
The Latino Breakfast Club-Eugenio Maria de Hostos Scholarship, which promotes the life and work of the renowned Puerto Rican, Eugenio Maria de Hostos, provides up to two $2,000 scholarship awards to recognize outstanding Latino/a students at Springfield Technical Community College. The LBC and STCC have created the Hostos scholarship to enhance the educational opportunities for Latino/a students within the Greater Springfield area. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to academically promising Latino/a students who contribute to the campus and/or citywide community and have demonstrated financial need.
The scholarship criteria is as follows:
- Be of Hispanic/Latino Descent
- Be a current Springfield Technical Community College student who has completed at least 12 college level credits OR be a 2007 or 2008 graduate of a Springfield public high school who will be entering STCC in the fall of 2008
- Demonstrate financial need (documentation may be requested by committee)
- Perform community service, related to the STCC campus and/or off-campus activities
- Write a 5 paragraph essay on what about Eugenio Maria de Hostos you find to be outstanding and how you see yourself in the future
CARL F. JUNKER AWARD
Scholarships will be given to six veteran students who have demonstrated academic excellence and financial need. This award is presented by Carol A. Roberts in memory of her brother, who gave his life for our country in the Korean War.
Criteria:
- Must be a veteran with honorable discharge, or is currently serving in the National Guard, Air National Guard or Reserves
- Enrolled and returning to STCC (Day or Evening)
- Minimum academic QPA of 3.0
MUTT AND JEFF SCHOLARSHIP
Presented annually to one returning student who has demonstrated financial need as well as academic excellence. The funds from this award may be used toward college-related expenses for tuition, fees, books, technology, and course-related supplies.
Criteria:
- Must be a returning student with a minimum of 15 degree
credits
completed at STCC - Must provide documented financial need
- Minimum QPA of 3.0
- Faculty letter of recommendation
STCC NON-TRADITIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Presented annually to two returning STCC non-traditional students who have been out of the educational environment (high school, technical training school, or college) for a minimum of three years. Applicant cannot be graduating this June and must have completed two full semesters (24 credits).
Criteria:
- Must have completed two semesters of academic work (minimum of 24 credits).
- Minimum academic QPA of 3.0
- Faculty member letter of recommendation
- Outside agency letter of recommendation
- Student essay. Please write a one or two page essay about your most rewarding community/college service experience.
LUCILLE GOODSON PARKS AWARD
One scholarship presented to a graduating student who emulates the qualities of the late Professor Lucille Parks who served both the Greater Springfield Community and this College so well during her tragically brief life. In many ways, Professor Parks provided an excellent role model for the so-called "non-traditional" students, so many of whom attend STCC.
Criteria:
- Identification as a member of a minority ethnic group (see application).
- Minimum academic QPA of 3.0
- Transfer acceptance at a 4-year college/university
- Family and/or community involvement addressing needs of others
- Good employment record; and/or productive organizational work, etc.
- College activities/services involvement
ROBERT M. PASINI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is presented annually to a graduating student. It was created in honor of Robert M. Pasini who taught English at STCC and was also a teacher, principal and coach in the Springfield Public School System for many years. He demonstrated a life-long commitment to education and community involvement. His family and friends give this scholarship.
Criteria:
- Minimum QPA of 3.0
- STCC graduate entering a four-year college or university
- Be a registered voter
- Faculty/Staff letter of recommendation
- Special consideration for applicants entering the field of education
EUGENE A. PEDERZOLI SCHOLARSHIP
One scholarship is given annually to a graduating student in the memory of Eugene A. Pederzoli, who was Director of Pharmacy at the former Springfield Hospital/Baystate Medical Center for 23 years. This scholarship is given by his wife, Mrs. Ruth E. Pederzoli and her daughter, Professor Gail Pederzoli Dunn.
Criteria:
- Must be a student in either Health Services or Nursing
- Must have demonstrated excellence in either Pharmacology or Chemistry
- Demonstrate care and concern for others as evidenced by college/community service
- Minimum academic QPA of 3.5
- Explain in writing your educational experience and how the scholarship would benefit your family and you
DAN ROULIER SINGLE PARENT SCHOLARSHIP
Two scholarships presented annually. Dan Roulier, a 1983 graduate of STCC, has made this scholarship possible.
Criteria:
- Must be a single parent, male or female, have a dependent child or children 18 years old or younger or 23 years old if the dependent is a full time student
- Can be a Day or SCE student
- Minimum QPA of 2.0
- Explain in writing your financial need and how this scholarship would benefit you and your family.
SPRINGFIELD INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION AWARD
Two awards to returning first-year students majoring in either Engineering Transfer or an Engineering Technologies curriculum that can subsequently lead to a career in an industrial setting.
Criteria:
- Minimum QPA of 3.0
- Full-time, first-year student
- Resident of Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin, Hartford, or Tolland Counties
- Financial need
- Faculty letter of reference
- Essay concerning future career goals
TAZZINI AWARD
Awarded annually to a graduating senior of Italian descent who resides in the Greater Springfield area. This award is given in memory of Judy Tazzini and Mildred Pino Lopardo.
Criteria:
- Identification as a person of Italian descent
- Minimum academic QPA of 3.0
- Established residency in Greater Springfield area
- Community involvement demonstrating concern for others
- Acceptance at a four year college or university
TERESINA B. THOMPSON AWARD
One scholarship presented to an outstanding graduating student who emulates the qualities of Teresina B. Thompson. The nominee should possess her drive, her striving for perfection, her sincere interest in people, her sense of responsibility to self, her family, her profession, and to the community as well as her academic strength.

- Minimum Academic QPA of 3.0
- College & community activities emphasizing the needs of other
- Faculty/staff letter of recommendation
