STCC Financial Aid - IRS Data Retrieval and Tax Transcripts

The IRS Data Retrieval Tool in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application transfers IRS tax return information and/or parent's tax information directly to your FAFSA. It is the easiest way to provide your tax information and ensures that your FAFSA has accurate tax information.

Speed up Financial Aid Processing by Using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool!

  • Log on to your FAFSA at www.fafsa.gov, sign in
  • Click on Make FAFSA Corrections and enter your FSA ID
  • Click on the Financial Information tab
  • Look for the link that explains transferring your tax information from the IRS. Follow the instructions to access the IRS website and have your financial information imported into your FAFSA
  • Do not change any of the information imported or it will be considered invalid. Continue to the last page to submit your FAFSA.

If you cannot complete the data retrieval process through your FAFSA, see instructions below to request tax transcripts.  Tax return transcripts can only be requested 2 weeks after you e-file your taxes or 8 weeks after you mail them.
