April 2006 - Information Technology Strategic Plan developed
The IT Department, together with the IT Steering Group, has developed a 3+year strategic plan for the IT Department. This plan covers a timeframe that includes most of fiscal year 2006 through fiscal year 2009. This strategic plan, in spreadsheet form, can be viewed by clicking on the link below. This is a dynamic plan, and the IT Department will continue to work on the initiatives stated on the document. As such, the plan will be updated to this website, quarterly.
March 2006 - Information Technology Software Policy approved by IT Steering Group
In an effort to better serve all the constituents on campus, a STCC Information Technology Software Policy has been developed. This policy covers issues such as supported software, software retirement, and requests for new software. The policy also addresses the issue of software licensing and installations. The areas on campus that are covered by this policy include computer labs, the Student Success Center, faculty and staff offices. Information concerning student requests and software for faculty and staff home PC's is also included. To view the entire software policy, please click on the link below.
May, 2005 - College IT Steering Group formed
The STCC IT Department was recently audited. As a result of that audit, one finding was that there was no enterprise-wide IT governance forum. A key recommendation was that an IT steering committee be formed to approve IT policies and allocate IT resources according to institutional priorities. Below is the mission and guiding principles of this newly formed group:
Mission
The Information Technology (IT) Steering Group provides management oversight of the IT function. This includes allocating scarce IT resources by setting priorities, setting IT policy, resolving significant IT project issues, and communicating critical needs to the President and the Board of Trustees.
Guiding Principles
Decisions will be made in accordance with the following principles:
- Decisions should maximize return on investment
- IT resources should support the College's strategic and operational plans
- IT policies should balance the needs of various stakeholders (students, faculty, administrative staff, IT department)
Membership
The IT Steering Group is comprised of the following voting members:
- Vice President, Administration/ CFO (chair)
- Vice President, Academic Affairs
- Vice President, Economic & Business Development
- Vice President, Enrollment Management/ Student Affairs
- Vice President, Grants and Development
- Vice President, Human Resources and Multi-Cultural Affairs
- Assistant to the President
Non-voting (ex-officio) membership:
- Chief Information Technology Officer (CITO)
- Assistant Chief Information Technology Officer
- Two Faculty members, by invitation
- One Student member, by invitation
Logistics
The IT Steering Group will initially meet monthly for up to the first six months, and then quarterly thereafter. The CITO will prepare an agenda in advance of each meeting and will communicate meeting outcomes to various college stakeholders. All agenda items should be e-mailed to the CITO in advance of a meeting. Individuals sponsoring IT initiatives are expected to submit their ideas to the IT Steering Group, in writing (utilizing the IT Policy & Planning Proposal form), and present their ideas to the IT Steering Group, in person.
August 12, 2004 - Help Desk Procedures
The IT Department has a new Help Desk procedure in place to better provide technical support to STCC faculty, staff, and students.
Please forward all IT-related questions and/or problems to the IT Help Desk, at helpdesk@stcc.edu, (or phone x4016, 8:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.). We ask that callers contact the Help Desk, and not individual members of the IT staff.
The new Help Desk procedure:
- The Help Desk will log each call and assign a help ticket.
- Whenever possible, problems will be resolved on initial Help Desk contact;
- Problems that cannot be resolved by the Help Desk will then be assigned to one of the IT staff;
- Calls will be tracked by the new Help Desk software;
- Callers will be kept informed of the status of their help ticket via email from helpdesk@stcc.edu .
Our goal is to improve IT service to the Campus Community. This procedure will help ensure that each call gets the attention it deserves, is followed through to final resolution, and that no support requests go unanswered.
