Dennis Shields & Myrna Page in the STCC Greenhouse
After working in the oil industry and facilities maintenance for many years Dennis Shields had the opportunity to return to college. “I decided I wanted to do something that I’d really enjoy. STCC’s Landscape Design & Management Technology program fit beautifully with my interests. I never expected to have so much fun and meet such a diverse group of people. The STCC faculty is outstanding. In particular, my lab instructor, Myrna Page, not only has a vast knowledge of the field but her easy going nature helped me transition back to the classroom. My STCC education has certainly prepared me to achieve my dream of owning and operating a greenhouse.”
Myrna adds, “Dennis was a great addition to our program. As with most older students, he was eager to learn and extremely helpful to me and our younger students. They looked up to him and found inspiration in his determination to “reinvent himself” and pursue an education that will prepare him for a career field that’s really “growing”!
