STCC Student Accounts Office - Tuition & Fees

The College reserves the right to make adjustments in the charges described below as may be required by the Board of Higher Education or the STCC Board of Trustees. Students acknowledge this reservation by submitting applications or registering for classes.

  • Student Health Insurance is required for all incoming students taking 9 or more credits.
  • Incoming Nursing, School of Health & Patient Simulation Students will be billed an additional program fee and liability insurance fee based on their program. Please see the Miscellaneous Fee chart for more details.
  • A program fee is billed to students in School of Health and Patient Simulation programs each semester. Please see the Miscellaneous Fee chart for more details.

Students paying for tuition, fees, and related charges by credit/debit card are assessed a non-refundable 2.4% service fee with a minimum of $1 fee.  In order to better serve our students, STCC accepts Visa, Discover, MasterCard, American Express, and E-Check (online only) payments.  Students may pay with cash, checks, money orders, and E-Checks as a fee free alternative to credit/debit payments.  (Please note that the service fee rate is subject to change.)

Students using a credit or debit card as payment when enrolling in the payment plan offered through Nelnet, will be charged a non-refundable 2.5% service fee (service fee subject to change).

Springfield Technical Community College offers students a payment plan as an option for paying their tuition and fee expenses for the summer, fall and spring semesters.   Please see the Payment Options section for additional information.

Additional fees for uniforms are required in most School of Health & Patient Simulation departments and in the School of Nursing.  Also, cosmetology students must purchase a kit, mannequin, and supplies.  Clinical Lab Science students are requested to join the professional organization.  Some departments have additional required costs.  For more specific information, please contact the Allied Health Office.

Resident Status and the impact on a student’s bill

The amount of tuition a student is charged per credit depends on the student’s resident status. In-state (Massachusetts) students are charged a lower rate of tuition than out-of-state students (see Determination of Resident Status below and schedule of tuition and fees above).

If you are an in-state student, it is very important that you complete the In-State Tuition Eligibility Form with the Admissions Office at the time you apply to STCC. If you do not complete the form, you will be automatically charged out-of-state tuition, even if you are an in-state student. The burden of proof of in-state resident status rests on the student seeking classification as a Massachusetts resident.

A student may at any time request STCC to reclassify him or her as a Massachusetts resident if the factual basis for his or her classification as a non-resident has changed. However, any change in a student’s classification as the result of a request for reclassification or an appeal approval will be retroactive only to the beginning of the semester during which STCC makes the final decision to reclassify the student.


Determination of Resident Status

An in-state student is defined as an American citizen or a permanent resident alien who has resided in Massachusetts, for purposes other than attending an educational institution, for at least six months immediately preceding the student's entry or re-entry as a student. A number of factors will be considered to determine the intention of an individual to maintain permanent residence in Massachusetts. No single factor will be considered decisive. Each case will be decided on the basis of all facts submitted by the student. The burden of proof rests with the student seeking in-state classification. The following indicators could be considered in determination of resident status.

  1. copies of federal and state income tax forms
  2. documentation of Massachusetts voter registration
  3. copies of valid Massachusetts driver's license and automobile registration
  4. permanent employment in a position not normally filled by a student
  5. continuous physical presence in Massachusetts during periods when not an enrolled student
  6. former residency in Massachusetts and maintenance of significant connections there while absent
  7. all other materials of whatever kind or source which may have a bearing on residency

Reciprocal Tuition / The New England Regional Student Program

Reciprocal tuition: The New England Regional Student Program enables New England residents to enroll in out-of-state public colleges and universities in the six-state region (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont) at reduced tuition rates, for certain degree programs that are not offered by their home-state public institutions or when the out-of-state college is closer to their home than the in-state college offering the same program. Explanation of Fees

Note: Tuition and fees are subject to change at any time with approval by the Board of Higher Education and/or Board of Trustees of the college.

  • GENERAL EDUCATION FEE:
    The General Education Fee replaces several other fees that were in existence in prior years. The fee is $140.00 per credit and the revenue is used to support the College’s Health Services, Library, Graduation Services, Academic Programs, as well as General College Operations and Services.
  • CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FEE:
    The Capital Improvement Fee will enable STCC to make improvements to our campus which will benefit students. The Fee is $19.00 per credit.
  • INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY FEE:
    The Information Technology Fee of $75.00 per semester will allow the College to continue to offer students access to state-of-the-art computer hardware, software and other educational technology.
  • STUDENT SERVICE FEE:
    The Student Service fee of $33.00 per semester will be used to fund student activities, athletics, and admissions requirements that have been mandated by the Patriot Act of 2001.
