Things to Know About Health Services
Every
student while on campus may seek the professional advice of
Jonathan Miller, PA-C, Director
of Health Services and a certified physician assistant, between the
hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm. The office is located in Building
20, Room 320.
What immunizations do I need for incoming General Studies, or any other non-health program?
Proof of tetanus in the last ten (10) years, 1 MMR and a 2nd measles--the first being after the age of one. A high school record or other documented immunization record is acceptable. Also, proof of Hepatitis B vaccination is required." could be added after MMR and before high school record.
What is required for the health field?
Any student in a health field must submit all vaccination records required for full-time, non-health major students. Additionally, students enrolled in a health field must have a physical exam, a current Mantoux (tuberculosis) test, and proof of Varicella (chickenpox) immunity. Note, students in Cosmetology and dental programs are exempt from the varicella record requirement.
Where can a student get these immunizations if he/she has no proof?
If a student needs to be re-immunized because of age or inability to locate his/her record, there are many locations and clinics, some free of charge and some at a reduced rate. Also, many vaccination are provided at the Health Services Office.
What are the Health Insurance Requirements, Coverage and Benefits
State law requires all college students enrolled in nine (9) credits or more to have health insurance. The cost of a health insurance policy is automatically added to a student's bill. A pamphlet is sent to students describing his/her benefits once the bill is paid. The amount of the insurance about $700 per year (subject to change).
If a student is already insured, the cost of the additional policy may be waived. Waiver cards are located in the Bursar's Office.
Do you distribute medication?
Some over-the-counter medications are available in a dispenser located in the lobby of the Health Services office.
Is there a doctor on campus?
The Health Services office is open for patient evaluations year round. The campus physician is available during the fall and spring semesters. Office hours are listed in the Health Services office and published in the STCCler. No appointment is necessary.
Are any students other than health programs required to have a physical?
All athletes must have proof of a physical exam within the past year to participate in a sport. If they do not have their own doctor and wish to see the school doctor for this service, they may do so free of charge.
Are literature and other information on various illnesses available in the Health Office?
We have a variety of pamphlets and other resources on Health and Wellness as well as medical conditions and treatments.
Is the TB test done on campus?
Mantoux, a type of tuberculosis testing, is provided on campus to faculty and staff in health fields for a minimal cost. These tests, as well as vaccinations are by appointment only.
