Paintings, drawings, and a large installation of studies in paint and drawing materials by artist K. Levni Sinanoglu are featured in an exhibit at Springfield Technical Community College. The exhibit, entitled Temples, Trees and Tents, will run through March 8. A reception for the artist will be held on Friday, February 15 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The Amy H. Carberry Fine Arts Gallery is located on the lower level of Building 28 on the STCC campus, and is open to the public free of charge. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday 12:30 to 4:30 and Saturday 10:00 to 2:00.
Larry Slezak, director of the Amy H. Carberry Fine Arts Gallery at STCC, described Sinanoglu’s work as rooted in his Turkish heritage. The artist said, “I seek to deepen my relationship to a unified present while acknowledging the persistence and multiplicity of the past. By unfolding a response to simple, often architectural forms, I am able to explore interactions between increasingly complex moments.”
Sinanoglu earned his BA from Hampshire College and his MFA from Yale University School of Art. He received awards and fellowships from the Yale School of Art, and the Yale Summer School of Music and Art, and has taught art at several colleges in this area. His works have been selected for group and solo exhibits in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, and Seattle, Washington.
The exhibit is made possible by funding from STCC Student Activities and the STCC Diversity Council.
