Belchertown Resident Named Outstanding Faculty Member for 2008 at STCC
Theresa
A. Glanville of Belchertown, professor of nursing at Springfield Technical
Community College, was named the Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year at the
college’s 41st commencement exercises. The annual award recognizes continued
outstanding service to the college and its students.
Glanville is herself the graduate of a community college, having earned an associate degree in nursing from Cape Cod Community College, a bachelor’s degree in nursing from American International College, and a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Massachusetts. She began full-time teaching in the School of Nursing at STCC in 1994, having previously been a part-time member of the clinical faculty.
STCC President Ira H. Rubenzahl, in presenting the award, said, “Terry is a very dedicated teacher. She has the ability to impart to her students the knowledge, sense of professionalism, and critical thinking ability so necessary to be a success in the nursing profession. She spends hours with many of her students individually, assisting them in overcoming difficulties and challenges.
He continued, “As a senior member of the nursing faculty, Terry was the first to pass a rigorous national exam to become a Nurse Educator. She takes on projects with zeal and determination. She was instrumental in bringing the National Student Nurses Association back to STCC, and recently traveled with two students to the organization’s national convention. In the community, Terry volunteers on many projects, and is currently working with the Springfield Task Force on Domestic Violence. Terry is truly an excellent teacher and professional whose constant contributions to students, colleagues, the college and community qualify her to receive our recognition as the Outstanding Faculty Member of the 2007-2008 academic year.”
