1. Where is the Writing Center located?
The Writing Center is located in Deliso Hall, Building 13, in Room 103
2. What are the Writing Center hours of operation?
The Writing Center is open Monday through Friday from 9am - 2pm
3. Is there a charge for services?
Tutoring is offered free of charge to all STCC students.
4. Is there a need to make an appointment?
Tutoring is available on a walk-in basis.
5. What should I do if the tutors are busy with other students?
Students are welcome to study, read, or write in the Center as long as there is space.
6. What are the standards for behavior in the Writing Center?
Students using the Writing Center are expected to adhere to the code of civil conduct outlined in the STCC Student Handbook.
7. Can students make up a test or quiz in the Writing Center?
Makeup test administration is based on staff availability.
8. Will the tutors correct grammar errors?
Tutors do not edit or collaborate on writing assignments. Instead, they may offer exercises and instruction about identified errors in grammar or usage. They will help students understand the instructor's directions for the assignment, and find a process to draw upon their own ideas.
9. How should students best prepare to work with tutors?
- Bring class assignments and handouts
- Bring drafts, especially ones with instructor comments.
- Bring a focus question: How can I form a thesis? I need to go over the directions, etc.
10. How can instructors or professional staff best help students find tutoring at the Writing Center?
Please e-mail any assignments and pertinent handouts to the Writing Center at writing@stcc.edu early in the semester so that tutors can become familiar with the demands of the project.
