I've met students from all over the world at STCC, but we all feel right at home.

Jacqueline “Jackie” Waweru, seeking a better life for herself and her daughter, left her native country of Kenya in 2005 to travel to Germany as part of an au pair exchange program. Sadly, it meant leaving her daughter behind to be raised temporarily by her parents. Through her work, she relocated to the United States and became an American citizen. She eventually settled in Springfield and began attending STCC in 2011 to work toward a career in health care. That same year, after a long battle, she was able to bring her daughter to the U.S. from Kenya. Jackie was accepted into the Medical Assistant certificate program in 2013. “What I love about medical assisting is I’m on the front line, close to the patient, providing care, comfort, and reassurance. I feel so blessed. Everyone has been so good to me. I’ve met students from all over the world at STCC, but we all feel right at home.”
