Campus Closure - March 12-13

March 12, 2020

RE: COVID-19/Coronavirus Campus Update

Dear STCC Students, Faculty and Staff:

Out of an abundance of caution, the college is closing at 5:00 p.m. today, Thursday, March 12th, including evening classes. Campus will remain closed on Friday, March 13th.

To be clear, evening classes (after 5:00 p.m.) scheduled for today, March 12th, and all credit and workforce classes tomorrow, March 13th, are canceled and the campus will be closed. Campus Facilities is hiring an outside vendor to perform a deep cleaning over the weekend.

It is important to state clearly that there are no known cases of COVID-19/coronavirus on campus, or within the City of Springfield. STCC continues to consult with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, the City of Springfield, and looks to guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Be advised that next week begins Spring Break, and students will be off through Friday, March 20th. The campus however, will resume normal business on Monday, March 16th, and we continue to partner with faculty on developing plans for the continuity of instruction.

We expect classes to resume on Monday, March 23rd, but will monitor developments over the coming week.

Every decision we make starts with the premise that we will not compromise the safety and well-being of our community. Additional details will be forthcoming as we monitor the situation.

We trust this will offer some peace of mind, and the college urges calm.

Thank you,

Joseph DaSilva
Vice President of Administration/CFO
