Continuity of Instruction - March 19
Thanks again for all your work in responding to your students' needs. As you know, the Governor has prohibited any face-to-face instruction; consequently, instructors for the entire state education system are devising remote learning plans.
I must stress that if you are in need of a laptop to enable you to work remotely, please contact your dean copying their staff immediately.
The deans and their staff are gathering information about which classes will run remotely next week, the week after or not at all. This will allow us to determine what the impact will be for students for whom classes may not be able to continue this term. We (and your students) can only get this information from you. Please communicate with your deans no later than noon tomorrow.
A Blackboard (BB) shell has been created labeled 'continuity of instruction' in which all faculty teaching this term have been entered as ‘students’. Additionally, department chairs and program coordinators have been entered as ‘instructors’. The instructors will be able to create discussion groups and edit in BB. This was an AUC request made at the end of last week and my thanks to Scott Lambert for making it happen.
Finally, my thanks again to all you are doing to make things work for the students. My thanks to all the staff across campus who have been working many hours to pivot enabling us to function remotely in the light of the national emergency. It is in the face of emergencies such as these, hard as they are, that the true mettle of our campus community has shone.
