Student describes ‘amazing opportunities’ at Gateway to College at STCC

Savanah Freidus, who is studying biology at Springfield Technical Community College, dreams of one day becoming a medical doctor. As a student studying biology at STCC, she’s at the beginning of her journey. She’s excited about being a STCC college student and credits the alternative high school program Gateway to College for helping her get on the right track.

STCC remembers Maurice G. Lindsay, alumnus and college trustee

Maurice G. Lindsay was remembered as a man who applied kindness and patience to all his endeavors, whether he was serving on the Springfield Technical Community College Board of Trustees, playing music on WTCC, 90.7 FM, or assisting people in the courts where he worked as deputy clerk. Lindsay, a 1992 graduate of STCC, died on Nov. 7. He had served as the alumni trustee on the STCC Board of Trustees since 2020. Giving back to STCC was one of his many passions.

STCC invites businesses to join Dec. 8 Back to Business Career and Transfer Fair

Springfield Technical Community College will host a Back to Business Career & Transfer Fair on Dec. 8 with area employers seeking to attract and retain employees. The event, which is free and open to students, alumni and friends of STCC looking for their next career move, will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Ira H. Rubenzahl Student Learning Commons (Building 19).

In recognition of International Education Week, Springfield Technical Community College’s Carberry Conversations wraps up on Wednesday, Nov. 16, with a virtual conversation with Kimani Worghs, an STCC graduate and Parsons School of Design student. The event will be held 12:15 p.m.-1 p.m. and will also include Sondra Peron, associate professor and coordinator of the STCC Amy H. Carberry Fine Arts Gallery.

STCC nursing program awarded continued accreditation

Springfield Technical Community College’s associate degree nursing program earned continued accreditation, with the accrediting body highlighting several areas of strengths and innovations. The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) found STCC’s program to be in compliance and scheduled the next evaluation visit for spring 2030. ACEN officials visited STCC in spring 2022 to evaluate the program.

STCC secures funding for cybersecurity center at Springfield’s Union Station

Springfield Technical Community College received $1.46 million in funding to open a Western Mass Cybersecurity Center of Excellence at Springfield Union Station. The funding was announced at Springfield Union Station on Monday, Oct. 31, during a celebration with U.S. Rep. Richard E. Neal and other dignitaries.

Kimani Worghs enrolled at Springfield Technical Community College for the same reasons many students cite: affordability, close to home, easy to fit classes around work and understanding instructors. All of that was true, but what he also found was a college experience that supported, deepened and strengthened his desire to pursue a career in fashion photography.
