What are your plans after graduation?
Within the next few months , I plan to join the Springfield Police Cadet Program while finishing my CRJ degree at STCC. After that, I plan to transfer to Western New England University to continue my education. Long term, I plan to stay at Western New England and pursue a career in law.

What is one accomplishment you are most proud of during your time at Gateway?
One accomplishment I’m most proud of during my time at Gateway is staying determined and making it to graduation despite everything I faced personally and academically. I learned how strong and resilient I really am, and I’m proud that I never gave up on myself. I’m also proud of doing a complete 360 in my education by earning all of my high school credits while also obtaining college credits at the same time.

What did you enjoy most about your Gateway experience?
What I enjoyed most about my Gateway experience was the flexibility of the classes. I had the option to choose between online or in-person classes and create a schedule that worked best for me, which really helped because I was also juggling my career at the same time. I also enjoyed the activities and our weekly wellness groups where we were able to talk about our feelings, support each other, and check in mentally and emotionally.

Who has supported or inspired you the most on your journey?
This is a complex question because, honestly, it’s more of a “what” than a “who.” What inspired me the most was the thought of graduating and proving to myself that I made it despite feeling at times like life was against me. Knowing I kept going no matter what pushed me to stay determined. As for who supported me the most, definitely my English professor, Professor Shea. She was one of the most knowledgeable and funniest professors I’ve had, and she always made learning enjoyable. Katara was also amazing — she checked in on me even when she didn’t have to, and she always had a spirit that could change anyone’s day.

What advice would you give future Gateway students?
I would tell future Gateway students to always keep their end goal in mind and stay focused on what they truly want for themselves. During these years, it’s important to develop a mature and resilient mindset because Gateway is preparing you not only for graduation, but also for college and the real world. There will be challenges, setbacks, and moments where things feel overwhelming, but don’t let that stop you from pushing forward. Stay disciplined, ask for help when you need it, and take advantage of the opportunities and support around you. Most importantly, believe in yourself even on the days when it feels hard to do so.
