Springfield Technical Community College will hold a virtual commencement rather than an in-person event on Friday, June 18, at 6 p.m. to honor the Class of 2021.
Like last year, the college will hold a streaming online ceremony (below) for graduates because of the safety risks associated with large in-person gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic.
New for this year is a drive-through campus parade for the Class of 2021. The streaming commencement ceremony also will include surprises. During last year’s ceremony, celebrity guests offered “shout-outs” to the class.
“Commencement is a significant milestone for our students, and we are very proud of them for all they have accomplished,” STCC President John B. Cook said. “While it’s disappointing not to have the event in person, we feel a virtual environment will allow graduates to celebrate safely and responsibly with their families and friends. We have a remarkable graduating class that overcame obstacles to reach this milestone. We look forward to honoring each and every graduate.”
Please encourage your families and friends to tune-in (and share!) as we celebrate each and every graduate. Commencement will be streamed on stcc.edu/youtube (below).
Drive-Through Parade for STCC Graduates
It’s time to celebrate! The college is honoring the Class of 2021 with a drive-through campus parade. Please save the date of Thursday, June 3 at 4:00 p.m.
Graduates get in your car and join us for a parade in your honor! Drive-through the campus as faculty and staff line the street to cheer you on for all that you have accomplished. Please note only ONE car per graduate is allowed to participate in the parade. If you do not have access to a car we will provide an alternate option for the parade. However, you must still be able to find your own way to come to campus.
You can wear your cap and gown, decorate your car, and enjoy the CELEBRATION – it’s for you!
(More instructions will follow once you register.)

Caps and gowns will be distributed via on-campus pickup on Thursday, May 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Friday, May 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The location for pick-up is in front of the Ira H. Rubenzahl Student Learning Commons (B19) by the Forum Entrance. Please park in the lot by the Ira H. Rubenzahl Student Learning Commons (B19). Please be sure to wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines when picking up your cap and gown. There is no need to be measured in advance for your gowns. There is no charge for caps and gowns.
Every Class of 2021 graduate will be recognized in the ceremony, which will be pre-recorded. Each graduate will be mailed his/her diploma once graduation requirements have been certified by the college. Please check the Online Address, Phone, and Email Changes link on WebAdvisor to verify that your mailing address on file with the college is correct. On this screen, you can update your address, if necessary.
The college will distribute diploma covers (for storing or displaying the degree or certificate) to all graduates. You can receive the diploma cover when you pick up your cap and gown. For those who decided not to pick up a cap and gown the diploma cover will be sent in the mail.
Each graduate will be mailed, in June, a commemorative Commencement booklet that lists the name of every graduate, by academic program. In this booklet, students graduating with Honors will be recognized.
Each graduate who is selected for a Departmental or School award will be mailed his/her Certificate. Awards recipients will also be noted in a special section of the Commencement booklet.
