Program Description
The NATE CHP-5 Heat Pump Technician Preparation module prepares participants for advanced HVAC/R careers by building the foundational and technical competencies required across all five core NATE CHP-5 domains: fundamentals, electrical and controls, comfort and airflow, installation, and service. Through industry-focused instruction and hands-on training, students develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to work with modern heat pump systems and energy-efficient HVAC technologies.
Participants gain a comprehensive understanding of how heat pumps operate within broader HVAC system design and how system controls, airflow, installation quality, and service procedures directly impact overall performance, efficiency, and occupant comfort. The program emphasizes the specialized requirements of heat pump technologies compared to traditional heating and cooling systems, ensuring participants are prepared for the growing demand for heat pump-ready technicians in the clean energy workforce.
Students are introduced to:
- HVAC/R fundamentals and heat pump system operation
- Electrical systems, controls, and diagnostic procedures
