Program Description

The Future Trades Entrepreneurship with OSHA-30 program prepares participants for careers in skilled trades business development, contracting, and clean energy entrepreneurship. Through industry-focused instruction and workforce readiness training, students build the business, management, operational, and workplace safety skills needed to start, support, or grow a contracting or HVAC business within today’s rapidly expanding energy-efficiency and heat pump sector.

Participants gain practical knowledge in project planning, estimating, business operations, marketing, and financial management while developing an understanding of how entrepreneurship connects to the growing demand for heat pump installation, maintenance, and high-efficiency energy services. The program also incorporates OSHA-30 safety training to reinforce workplace safety standards and regulatory compliance across construction and HVAC-related industries.

Students are introduced to:

  • Business planning and entrepreneurship fundamentals
  • Contracting operations and HVAC business management practices
  • Cost estimating, budgeting, and financial planning
  • Project management and scheduling techniques
  • Marketing, customer service, and client relationship development
  • Contracts, proposals, and business communication practices
  • Heat pump and clean energy service sector opportunities
  • Workforce development and clean energy career pathways
  • OSHA-30 workplace safety standards and hazard recognition
  • Construction site safety, PPE, and safe work practices
  • Regulatory compliance and professional responsibility
  • Leadership, professionalism, and small business development strategies

Participants also receive guidance on career advancement opportunities, industry expectations, and pathways toward entrepreneurship and management roles within the HVAC, construction, and clean energy industries.

Prerequisites/Requirements

  • Participants must be 16 years or older
  • High School Diploma preferred 
  • MA Resident
  • Completion of the Bridge to High Efficiency Energy module or 12-18 Months of experience as Oil Burner/HVAC technician
  • Interest in opening own business in high-efficiency energy systems or related fields
