STCC awarded $131,250 to expand workforce training for Certified Nursing Assistants
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Springfield Technical Community College will receive $131,250 in state workforce training funding to help adults prepare for careers as Certified Nursing Assistants, part of the $1.5 million awarded to all 15 Massachusetts community colleges to expand access to job training and address critical workforce needs.
Gov. Maura Healey announced the Fiscal Year 2027 Training Resources and Internships Network (TRAIN) grants during Massachusetts STEM Week, Oct. 19-23. The statewide initiative is expected to help more than 500 unemployed and underemployed adults gain skills and credentials for jobs in high-demand industries, including health care, advanced manufacturing, information technology, education, and transportation.

The grant will support STCC's CNA training program, providing participants with a pathway into the health care workforce, and an opportunity to pursue careers in a field with ongoing demand for skilled professionals.
“Every Massachusetts student deserves the opportunity to build a career and earn a good living,” Healey said. “That's why we made community college tuition and fee-free and why we're continuing to invest in workforce training across the state. These grants will help more than 500 adults gain the skills they need to get good-paying jobs while helping Massachusetts employers find the talented workers they need to grow.”
“Thank you to the Healey-Driscoll administration for this investment,” said Gladys Franco, Assistant Vice President of Workforce Development at STCC. “This funding will help prepare individuals for careers as Certified Nursing Assistants, an essential role in health care, while opening doors to new opportunities for economic mobility and long-term career growth.”
Administered by the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education, the TRAIN grant program supports industry-specific workforce training and services for adults entering or returning to the workforce. The programs are designed to address regional employment needs, help participants overcome barriers to employment, and prepare them for career opportunities in growing industries.
The investment builds on the Healey-Driscoll administration's efforts to make higher education more affordable and connect students with employment opportunities. Through MassEducate and MassReconnect, Massachusetts has expanded access to tuition- and fee-free community college for eligible students, helping more residents pursue education and training to advance their careers.
