STCC, HCC to host national conference on Puerto Rico Oct. 14-16

Moriviví is the theme the Puerto Rican Studies Association adopted this year for its national conference, which is being hosted jointly by Holyoke Community College and Springfield Technical Community College Oct. 14-16. More than 200 scholars, researchers, academics, artists, and others are expected to attend the three-day conference, “Moriviví: Activating Puerto Rican Futures.”

The theme, “55 Years of Gratitude and Grit,” reflects the resilience of students and STCC alumni.

STCC’s fire science program sparks interest of Western Mass. firefighters

When he’s not working as a lieutenant with the Springfield Fire Department, on many nights Nathan Lavallee is cracking the books in pursuit of a degree from Springfield Technical Community College. Lavallee, a firefighter since 2015, is a student in the Fire Protection and Safety Technology program and hopes to get his associate degree in the spring 2023.

STCC Medical Laboratory Technician grad reflects on her rewarding work

STCC grad Erica Bailey works as a lead medical lab scientist at Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer. She tests blood in the hospital’s lab to ensure it’s safe for people in need of transfusions. She and other scientists and technicians look for antibodies that might cause an adverse transfusion reaction. They also analyze specimens to determine blood types. She credits STCC with helping her to find a dream career.
