Research scientist started her higher ed journey at STCC

Pearl Magala's quest to obtain the best possible education began at Springfield Technical Community College. She enrolled in the Engineering and Science Transfer program at STCC in 2003, the year she emigrated from Kampala, Uganda. Today, the 31-year-old holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and works in a research laboratory at the University of Washington in Seattle.

STCC to offer certified auto damage appraisal course

The Workforce Development Center at Springfield Technical Community College will offer a certified auto damage appraisal course beginning Nov. 28. The 60-hour course is designed to train insurance claims professionals and auto body technicians for the Massachusetts Auto Damage Appraisers License Examination.

The online option, open to Massachusetts and Connecticut residents, will appeal to students looking for flexibility and convenience. Students who live far from the STCC campus may want to take their classes online. The program begins at the start of the next spring semester, Jan. 22.

Art gallery at STCC to feature large scale collage works by Amherst artist Keith Hollingworth

Mixed media artist Keith Hollingworth’s two series, “54 African Americans” and “Homage to Art,” will be on view through Thursday, Nov. 9, at Springfield Technical Community College’s (STCC) Amy H. Carberry Fine Arts Gallery. A “meet and greet” reception for the artist is scheduled Tuesday, Oct. 31, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

STCC IT certification classes prepare students for jobs

Jim Beane, the director of Program Development and Professional Services for the Workforce Development Center, teaches and develops information technology (IT) certification courses at STCC, many of which are starting in October and November. STCC offers an array of IT certifications through the Workforce Development Center, which includes noncredit programs like the ones Beane teaches, among other training opportunities.
