STCC to offer free tax preparation assistance to Springfield community

Starting Jan. 24, Springfield Technical Community College (STCC) will once again offer free income tax filing assistance for low-to-moderate income taxpayers. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program will help STCC students and surrounding community residents prepare and file their basic federal and state tax returns. Tax help will be available by appointment from Wednesday, Jan. 24, through Saturday, April 14.

HCC, STCC to launch Gaming School, open registration for training classes Dec. 6

Springfield Technical Community College Dental Hygiene program and the Valley District Dental Society will co-host the first Community Dental Day on Dec. 9, 2017. The event provides an opportunity for area residents who might not be receiving any dental care to obtain free treatment and schedule follow-up visits.

STCC biotech program provides career opportunities in a growing field

At a time when biotechnology jobs are hitting an all-time high in Massachusetts, Springfield Technical Community College offers one of the few degree-granting programs in Western Massachusetts that can train students for careers in the booming industry. To raise awareness about the program, STCC on Nov. 20 hosted a Biotechnology Career Exploration Luncheon for students and a tour of STCC’s state-of-the-art biotech labs.

Research scientist started her higher ed journey at STCC

Pearl Magala's quest to obtain the best possible education began at Springfield Technical Community College. She enrolled in the Engineering and Science Transfer program at STCC in 2003, the year she emigrated from Kampala, Uganda. Today, the 31-year-old holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and works in a research laboratory at the University of Washington in Seattle.

STCC to offer certified auto damage appraisal course

The Workforce Development Center at Springfield Technical Community College will offer a certified auto damage appraisal course beginning Nov. 28. The 60-hour course is designed to train insurance claims professionals and auto body technicians for the Massachusetts Auto Damage Appraisers License Examination.
