Housebound? STCC offers online workforce development training

Springfield Technical Community College’s Workforce Development Center offers a range of online courses available 24 hours a day from any device with an internet connection. Online education at STCC combines interactive exercises, mini-cases, video, and focused reading to ensure courses are not only engaging but that students really learn.

STCC hires mechanical engineering technology instructor

Springfield Technical Community College named Thomas Robitaille as an instructor in mechanical engineering technology. Robitaille, of Chester, is third generation to join in this field after his father and grandfather. A STCC graduate with an associate degree in mechanical engineering technology, he has been working as a CNC machinist/programmer at MTG, Inc. in Westfield since October 2016.

STCC wrestling teams capture titles at regional championship

Competing at home, the men’s and women’s wrestling teams at Springfield Technical Community College both captured first place at the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) Northeast Conference Championship on Feb. 29. The men and women’s teams have won the title four years in a row.

STCC receives grant for financial literacy

Springfield Technical Community College received a grant from Guardian Life Insurance Company to support a free personal finance course for students and help students who complete the course to pay off debt to the college. The grant also supports the hiring of a new financial literacy coordinator, Brendon Pohner, of Westfield, who will coach students to make smart financial choices.

STCC awarded $250,000 to boost mechanical engineering technology

Springfield Technical Community College will apply $250,000 in newly awarded state funding to double the size of its mechanical engineering technology laboratory. The college will add five new coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), a second cabinet of metrology (measuring) tools that contain digital calipers, micrometers, pin and bore gauges and a 3D printer that will allow the department to create parts customized to lesson plans.

Springfield Technical Community College announces the appointment of David Buonora as assistant vice president for the Workforce Development Center, effective Feb. 17. Buonora, of Enfield, Conn., comes to STCC from WorkSource Montgomery in Maryland, where he was chief operating officer.
