STCC to host ‘College for Kids’ summer program

College for Kids at STCC kicks off on July 7, 2025.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Springfield Technical Community College announces the return of College for Kids, a summer program designed to engage students between the ages of 11 and 16 in exciting learning experiences focused on science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM).
Running throughout July, College for Kids offers weeklong, hands-on programs that allow tweens and teens to have fun while learning in a college environment. Each session runs Monday through Friday and costs $189. The Workforce Development division at STCC is organizing the program.
“We’re thrilled to welcome students back to campus for a summer of discovery and creativity,” said Gladys Franco, Assistant Vice President of Workforce Development. “From coding and design to basketball and hip hop, there’s something for everyone, and it all happens right here at STCC.”
Summer 2025 Program Lineup:
July 7–11:
- It’s Your Turn, Take the Mic: A public speaking workshop that builds confidence, poise and communication skills, ending with a community presentation.
- Introduction to Python Programming: Learn to code games and applications using one of the world’s most popular programming languages. No experience required.
July 14–18:
- Intro to Acting: Build self-awareness and confidence through games, improvisation and a short original performance.
- 3D Printing: Design and print custom creations while exploring design thinking and the basics of engineering.
July 21–25:
- Basic Design: Learn visual storytelling through drawing, painting and collage in this creative introduction to design.
- Design and Science in the Landscape: A hands-on class exploring plant science, landscaping and outdoor design projects.
July 28–August 1:
- The Art of Hip Hop: Dive into DJing, MCing, breakdancing and graffiti and discover how hip hop connects to STEAM in surprising ways.
- Basketball and Physics: Improve athletic skills with the Springfield Ballers while learning how science, health and leadership tie into the game.

Lunch is not provided, so students should bring a nut-free packed lunch each day.
