STCC student accepted in NASA summer academy

STCC student Aminah Bergeron was accepted to participate in the NASA Lucy Student Pipeline Accelerator and Competency Enabler (L’SPACE) Mission Concept Academy – Summer 2020 Program. It’s the second big opportunity Bergeron has had with NASA. In early March, Bergeron attended the NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS) Onsite Experience at Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia.

STCC professor creates virtual preschool in response to pandemic

Springfield Technical Community College student-teachers will get experience this summer instructing young children through a virtual preschool. Assistant Professor Aimee Dalenta, chair of the Early Childhood Education program at STCC, came up with the idea of the Pioneer Valley Virtual Preschool, which was created in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

STCC named top school for dental hygiene

Dental Hygiene at Springfield Technical Community College has been named one of the best two-year associate degree programs in the country. GradReports featured STCC’s program as part of its 2020 Best Colleges list. GradReports’ rankings are the first to be based on median early-career salary data of over 5 million graduates from the U.S. Department of Education's resource, College Scorecard. STCC’s Dental Hygiene ranked highest in the state among community college programs.

STCC plans mix of on-campus low-density labs and online courses for fall

Springfield Technical Community College this fall will offer a combination of on-campus low-density labs using social distancing protocols, as well as online instruction. Dr. Geraldine de Berly, Vice President of Academic Affairs, outlined summer and fall semester instruction plans in an email shared with the campus community today.

STCC elects new student government leaders

Springfield Technical Community College’s student body elected Student Government Association leaders who will serve during the 2020-2021 academic year. The new leaders are Student Trustee Alessande Anderson of Springfield; SGA President Jose Cuellar of Chicopee; and SGA Vice President Kimberly Quinonez of the Indian Orchard section of Springfield. They were elected after an online vote in early May.

STCC announces celebration of the Class of 2020

Springfield Technical Community College will hold a “Celebration of the Class of 2020,” a virtual event that will be streamed online Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. The college encourages family and friends of graduates to watch the event on STCC’s website, stcc.edu. In addition to the online celebration, STCC has invited every Class of 2020 graduate to participate in the college’s June 3, 2021, commencement ceremony.

STCC names Darcey Kemp as vice president of Student Affairs

Springfield Technical Community College has named a higher education administrator from New York as vice president of Student Affairs. Darcey Kemp of Ghent, N.Y., began her new post on April 27. She had served as the assistant vice president for Student Development, Leadership, and Completion Initiatives at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y. since 2015.
