STCC facilities workers awarded certificates at State House ceremony

Four Springfield Technical Community College facilities workers recently earned certificates after completing safety and new technology training session webinars which prepare them to maintain and repair state-of-the-art heating and air conditioning systems. The certificates were awarded to HVAC department workers Gilbert Ocasio, utility plant operator, and HVAC refrigeration mechanics Zosimo Torres, Andrew Durand and Stephen Grader.

STCC students complete blanket project to help Ronald McDonald House of Springfield

Springfield Technical Community College students delivered over two dozen fleece blankets that will help children and families at the Ronald McDonald House of Springfield. Members of the Student Ambassador Program at STCC volunteered their time to create no-sew blankets. They cut thin strips around the perimeter of the blankets and then tied the strips together in knots, creating a decorative fringe.

Newly trained blackjack dealers look forward to next round of classes in January

Over a dozen students took the blackjack class earlier this fall and were handed their certificates of completion during a graduation ceremony on Oct. 22. To get an audition with MGM Springfield, students need to have training in at least two games. Most who are new to the gaming industry start with blackjack and then move on to carnival games, which are nontraditional casino games.

STCC Theater Workshop to stage play about intolerance

The Springfield Technical Community College Theatre Workshop will bring to the stage two plays in December, including one about coming out … as a left-hander. The plays, which will be performed back-to-back, are “Some Prepared Remarks,” a one-man show written by Jason Gray Platt that covers a man’s life in seven short speeches, and the satire “Removing the Glove.”
