STCC invites businesses to join Dec. 8 career and transfer fair

Springfield Technical Community College will host a Back to Business Career & Transfer Fair on Dec. 8 with area employers seeking to attract and retain employees. “We invite area employers to join us for the Back to Business Career and Transfer Fair,” said Kelly Galanis, director of Operations and Donor Relations for the STCC Foundation. “This is a terrific opportunity for employers to connect with STCC students, alumni and friends who are searching for their next career move.”

STCC seeks support for students on GivingTuesday Nov. 30

Springfield Technical Community College is asking for help on Nov. 30, which is GivingTuesday, an annual fundraising initiative that opens the doors of opportunity for students. The STCC Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps the college goals and commitment to provide superior educational opportunities in the community, is seeking financial gifts from alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends.

STCC Computer Information Technologies degree creates opportunity after job loss

Robert Goetting had an exciting career in publishing where he worked on popular books such as “Harry Potter” and the “Twilight” series, among other bestsellers. But due to changes in the industry, his work was outsourced. He lost his job as a book designer, editor and proofreader and started thinking about a new career.

STCC named among best community colleges by Intelligent.com

Springfield Technical Community College joined Intelligent.com’s list of Best Community Colleges in Massachusetts in 2022. The research identifies 18 top programs in the nation based on flexibility, faculty, course strength, cost and reputation. Intelligent.com, a resource for online/on-campus program rankings and higher education planning, singled out STCC as having the best photography program.

Alumna returns to STCC to help students succeed

When she was enrolled at Springfield Technical Community College, Karolyn Burgos Toribio believed in getting involved and helping fellow students thrive. She started a club for Black and Hispanic female students. She also served as student trustee, a key leadership role. She used to stroll around the campus green with a fellow student who is now her husband, Malachi Vivenzio. Burgos Toribio expresses nothing but warm memories of STCC.

STCC professor shares memories from Vietnam at Veterans Day event

At a Veterans Day event at Springfield Technical Community College, professor Eric Brown shared grim memories of his service as a field medic in Vietnam and described how the wartime experience shapes his work at STCC. He reminded those gathered in the forum at the Student Learning Commons why many veterans struggle after coming home.

STCC disperses more than $4 million in federal grants to help students

Springfield Technical Community College distributed $4,018,000 from a federal emergency relief grant provided in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic to help 3,405 eligible students. STCC in October distributed money made available through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) and the American Rescue Plan Act enacted by Congress.

STCC Optics and Photonics professor accepts award at conference
Date: Thursday, November 4, 2021

Nicholas Massa, a professor Optics and Photonics at Springfield Technical Community College, accepted an award recognizing him for outstanding contributions to education in optical science and engineering. Massa accepted the Esther Hoffman Beller Medal from Optica, formerly the Optical Society of America (OSA), an organization that advances optics and photonics worldwide. The society held a virtual Frontiers in Optics conference Nov. 1-4.
