STCC Makes

students with laser equipment

STCC Makes is a FREE one-week, full-immersion, design-build summer program for local middle and high school youth between the ages of 9 and 17 years.

The principles of Lasers, Photonics, and Airbrushing Art are introduced in studio workshops via a series of slideshows, demonstrations, on-campus site explorations, and computer graphics exercises. Each day participants will be introduced to new design concepts that they will interpret and reimagine. STCC Makes fosters an atmosphere of fairness and inclusion. Each participant will be encouraged to follow their unique path however, the role of “Scientist/Artist as collaborator” is a high priority. The work of the program culminates in a final public presentation after which participants bring their final projects and digital copies of their files home with them.

The program is funded by a federal HSI/STEM Grant for the academic year 2021-22.

Instructors

STCC Makes is led by its STEM Center Director, Steph Brown, a Design professional with over 20 years experience in teaching at the community college, undergraduate and graduate levels.
