Culture clashes in Western Mass inspire STCC grad’s animated comedy series

STCC graduate Zul Manzi is focused on the animated comedy series he created for the internet called “The Matumbila’s,” which is loosely based on his own family. The series is available on KweliTV, a video network that features stories by Black writers and content producers from around the world, including independent films, documentaries, web series, kids programming and more.

Lessons learned in STCC’s fire technology program could save a life

The Fire Protection and Safety Technology program at STCC is a benefit for many area firefighters and those who want to start a career in the field. Student Dominic “Dom” Grilli is a full-time firefighter in Springfield’s station 4 on Carew Street and is working on his associate degree in STCC’s Fire Protection and Safety Technology program at night.

Researching COVID-19 daunting but rewarding for this STCC student

STCC Student Sebastian Sanchez is working toward his associate degree in health science and considering pursuing a certification to be a sterile processing technician. Meanwhile, he has his hands full with classes at STCC. Over the summer he took three courses, including one under the auspices of the STEM Starter Academy, which aims to draw more students to the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. STCC class prepares students for careers in the paving industry

Springfield Technical Community College will offer an asphalt pre-apprenticeship class that paves the way for careers working in asphalt laboratories. The 280-hour program, which runs Feb. 22 through April 23, consists of classroom work and paid, on-the-job training.

STCC sends Stop & Shop donation to Springfield Public Schools

Springfield Technical Community College has passed its donation of milk from Stop & Shop to Springfield Public Schools to help homeless, migrant and at-risk students. “During this time, we have seen so many families struggling, and being able to pass along a donation like this one brings not only smiles, but relief to their faces,” said Jose Lopez-Figueroa, director of the Center for Access Services at STCC.
