Former STCC students now serving as lawmakers to join ‘Community Conversations’

Four lawmakers who once were students at Springfield Technical Community College will join the next segment of “Community Conversations” on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 12:15 p.m.-1:45 p.m. The public is invited to attend the virtual event. Featured speakers are state reps. Bud L. Williams, Angelo J. Puppolo Jr., Orlando Ramos and state Sen. Adam Gomez. To register for the free virtual event, visit stcc.edu/conversations.

Virtual event designed to inspire women to pursue STEM majors and careers

The Pioneer Valley Women in STEM (PVWIS) network and the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) are co-sponsoring Unleash Your Inner STEM!, a free virtual event on Feb. 25 from 5:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. While open to all women in STEM (student or professional), this event targets community college women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics majors.

STCC announces fall 2020 dean’s list

Springfield Technical Community College celebrates the accomplishment of the 834 students who were named to the fall 2020 dean’s list. The dean’s list is published each semester to recognize excellence in academic performance. To be considered, degree-seeking students must earn 12 or more college level credits in the current semester, or a total of 12 or more combined college-level credits earned during the fall and spring semesters, and achieve a 3.3 or above grade point average.

Climate Bill Letter of Support

The Next-Generation Roadmap bill is a necessary step that protects the health and safety of Massachusetts residents by accelerating the pace to reach net zero emissions while also protecting environmental justice communities.

STCC Dental Hygiene Clinic to offer free treatment for 2 months

Springfield Technical Community College’s Dental Hygiene Clinic will offer free preventative treatment for children and adults in February and March. The clinic on the campus of STCC usually charges a nominal fee for services, but the college decided to waive fees for two months to help the community, many of whom are facing financial hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic.

STCC partners with Head Start to create online preschool

STCC students enrolled in an early childhood education degree or certificate program are required to spend 150 hours teaching in the field under the guidance of mentor teachers. Prior to pandemic shut-downs, they logged those hours in a variety of settings: family child care operations, private childcare programs, public school preschool programs and federally funded Head Start centers.
